Ophelia gave a sigh of relief once she stepped out of the portal. Going through those things was always slightly dizzying. But the Magic Realm was a big place, and if she wanted to keep an eye on all the kingdoms, she needed them to check on them often. She'd just gotten back from Monmouth Town after checking in on the residents and even hitting up some shops. New businesses always got a little boost in popularity if someone high ranking visited them, so Ophelia liked to help out places like that if she could. For a moment, it seemed that the Enchanted Forest was quiet, save for a few birds chirping. But there was a rustling sound from one of the nearby bushes and she turned her head just in time to see something small jump out at her. She yelped in surprise and the furry thing ended up landing in her arms. She looked down to see that it was a fox, and a baby at that. It looked a little scared. "Where did you come from, little guy?" Ophelia asked, looking around in confusion. Was it lost or something? She wasn't sure what to do with it exactly. Animals weren't her specialty, except for the horse she rode every once in a while.

It hadn't been easy tracking the fox in mouse form. Not to mention the fear of being eaten that frequently crossed his mind as he chased the injured animal through the forest. Basil had to admit that even though it was hard, at least he was able to maneuver through the forest silently in mouse form. If he were a human he would have lost the fox with all the racket he would have made.
He stopped when he saw the fox jump into a blonde-haired woman's arms. Simultaneously he cursed and blessed his luck. On the one hand, now he had someone to hold the fox while he examined it in this less than ideal work environment. On the other hand, he wasn't thrilled about having to talk to a stranger. He shifted back to his natural form before stepping into view, praying that the kit didn't run off again.

The baby fox wasn't the only surprise Ophelia found. A man seemed to suddenly appear as if from nowhere, coming into view rather unexpectedly. She gave another surprised cry, moving back a step. Although once she calmed down, the guy didn't look like a threat or anything, just a bit serious. "Oh, hello there," she said, trying not to show how startled she had been. "Um, you didn't happen to see which direction this fox came in, did you?" If she at least had a starting point, maybe she could retrace the fox's steps and figure out where it lived.

"About a quarter of a mile back that way." He said gesturing back the way he had came. "I wouldn't recommend taking him back there though. It looks like his mom got caught in a trap." He held up his hands to show he was unarmed. "I heard a cry of pain and saw him run off and wanted to make sure he wasn't hurt." He explained as he slowly approached. "I don't think I can do anything for the mother. It looked like her neck was snapped."

"Oh," Ophelia said sadly, looking a little downcast. Sure, she knew hunting was necessary for people to eat and that others enjoyed it as a sport. Still, now this little fox was alone in the world. And she couldn't help but think for a moment how it had lost its mother just like she lost her parents. But she shook the thought away. Moping wasn't going to help. She needed to think of a solution. If this guy was trying to help this fox out, maybe he knew a thing or two about animals. "Okay, um, then what are our options?" she asked. "I mean, we can't just leave him and hope for the best...right?"

"Well," Basil said taking a step closer. "If you can hold him, I can look and assess the damage, if there is any." He quietly prayed that if the kit was hurt it wasn't with something serious. After all, he didn't have his medical equipment with him in this world. He was still unsure about how to bring things from his world to this place, nor did he know what would happen to an animal if he tried to bring it back with him. "I'm a vet, an animal doctor." He explained hoping that would help alleviate the blonde's apprehension if there was any.

Ophelia felt relieved at that. If this guy was an animal doctor, he was definitely an expert and more knowledgeable about this situation than she would be. The baby fox squirmed slightly, as if fearing that the guy was going to poke and prod him. "Hey, hey, relax, it's okay," she said soothingly, gently petting the fox. It settled down slightly in her arms, although she felt it would probably bolt if she did anything sudden. "I don't think I caught your name?" she said, looking at the man.

Basil was about to say: 'Just ask me for my name, don't give me cute little sayings.' when a memory of an encounter with his cousin flashed across his mind. It was when he was twelve, making Justin eight.
"What's wrong?" Justin had asked him. "Someone just said that they didn't catch my name." Basil had responded. "How can you catch a name let alone throw it?! It doesn't make sense!" Anyone else might have laughed at the young preteen, but Justin merely smiled at his cousin and explained, "That's just a different way of asking what your name is."
"Basil." Basil replied as he returned mentally to the present. "Doctor Basil Strange." His hand opened and closed in anticipation of the unwanted expectation of a handshake. Hopefully since her hands were full of fox kit, he wouldn't have to give her one.

The introduction seemed a bit stiff, but maybe that was just how Basil was. Ophelia was no stranger to that. A lot of people could be like that when they first met her. Although Basil didn't seem to recognize her. Or maybe he just wasn't the type to treat people like royalty. Ophelia honestly found it a little refreshing. "I'm Ophelia," she said, omitting her title for now. She stepped a little closer so Basil could easily reach the baby fox, who was looking a bit more relaxed now.

"Easy there, little one," Basil told the young fox, careful not to make direct eye contact with either the animal or Ophelia. Moving slowly so as not to startle the small animal, Basil assessed the overall look of the baby before he did anything. "Talk to it." He instructed Ophelia. "Keep him calm." He allowed the animal to sniff him before gently moving his hands over the body of the fox.

Basil took the fox, although it still seemed a little antsy in his arms. "Come on now, it's okay," Ophelia said soothingly, scratching behind its ear. The fox seemed to like that and Ophelia could see it relax a bit. It'd probably bolt if something startling happened, but for now, it looked like it would stay still long enough for Basil to look it over.

"That's it," Basil said to both the fox and Ophelia. Carefully, starting from the tip of the fox's head he examined the fox with his hands. Lightly touching the bright orange fur, he carefully applied slight pressure on the animal's sides, hips, and shoulders to test if anything was broken. He stopped when the fox tensed up when he got to the end of the spine. It appeared that the area was sore. Gently he parted the fur and let out a quiet hum of concern. There was a small burn mark where the tail met the body.

Ophelia looked up when Basil hummed slightly. It took her a second to see what he was looking at. The little fox had a bun apparently. "Oh, you poor thing," Ophelia said. Sure, animals probably got hurt in the wild all the time, but it was still a little sad, especially since the fox was so young.

Normally, Basil would have said that the burn had come from a gun, or an explosion of some kind. Since this world seemed to be medieval and fantasy based, he was almost willing to bet money that guns and explosives, the kind that he knew about, weren't a factor in this particular case. Magically caused explosions on the other hand would most likely be the cause.
"Question." He said looking up at Ophelia. "What do you guys use on burns? I.....don't exactly have access to my equipment here."

"Um..." Shoot. Ophelia wasn't a medical expert. She left that to the professionals. But she had spent a lot of time with them when her parents were sick. There had to have been a point where they mentioned something about burns, right? Right? "I know we use herbal remedies if magic isn't available. I'm just...not sure what they might be." Great, some help she was. "Water could at least help a little, right?" she asked. If anyone got a burn of a fever, usually the thing they did was put something cool on it, usually a cloth soaked in cold water. Maybe that could work for the time being until they found something better?
