Sure, some might not see a ball as important as other royal duties, like making sure the army was still active or taking care of subjects during a drought. But balls were good for morale and it gave a chance for different people in the kingdom to come together, which was why Ophelia was throwing one now. As she expected, her staff went all out, decorating the ballroom in beautiful flowers, selecting the finest foods for guests to munch on, and hiring a top-notch orchestra that knew just the right kind of music that would get people dancing. Ophelia would have to save any dancing for later though, as her subjects in the room, from high lords to country farmers, looked at her to say a few words before things got kicked off. Giving speeches frightened Ophelia in the past, but she'd gotten better at them with practice, and after clearing her throat, she said confidently,
"Thank you all for coming. Events like these serve to remind us that no matter how different we are, or where we come from, we are all still part of this kingdom. The term 'subjects' has been used for a long time for citizens of a kingdom, those who serve a ruler. But part of a ruler's job is to serve their subjects in return, and that's what I want to do. I've tried my best over the past several months, but I always want to do more. So let's serve each other and make this kingdom great. Let the ball commence!"
Opehlia's words had effect she wanted, and everyone excitedly clapped. She felt proud at seeing their smiles, and just hoped that their faith in her wouldn't be misplaced. The guests immediately started milling about, either bringing partners onto the dance floor or helping themselves to the buffet. Ophelia was content to watch for a moment and hold onto that satisfied feeling for a moment longer.

Daniel had made his way into the crowd. A ball huh. How could he not join in on that kind of fun? Yes he was not really one of the higher ups but when he heard that people with lower income like himself were welcome too he could not wait to see what the night would bring. Listening to the queens peptalk made him a bit hopeful, yet he only was here for one thing. The dancing. He smirked as he made his way to the dance floor waiting for a dance partner to show their face to him.
As Ophelia was speaking david could not help but doubt her words. He was not going to show his doubts however or speak up as he felt the nails of his uncle dig into his shoulder. He threw a quick look to his twin sister who gave him a glance in return before looking back at the young woman speaking to her subjects. As she was done arthur let go of them for a moment to straighten his suit. He gave both children a look. "go find yourself some entertainment for the night but stay where i can see you." he spoke in a stern way. The kids nodded not sure what that would mean for them.
Seeing all the festivities serenity could not help but smile weakly as she swooned over the idea of dancing the night away where her family could not see her. The ice nymph watched the people on the dancefloor as if almost entranced by their movements. As a blonde boy who was rather good in dancing offered to dance with her the woman blushed and shook her head embarrassed as she quickly turned to move away only to bump into someone else. She let out a soft gasp. "oh my goodness I am so sorry..! Are you allright?"

People seemed to find partners for the dance floor rather quickly. The orchestra was playing a pretty popular tune. It made Ophelia tap her feet along with the beat, although she was startled for a moment when somebody suddenly bumped into her. It was a woman, with hair almost as blonde as hers. She immediately got flustered and started apologizing, but Ophelia waved the gesture aside. "I'm fine, it's fine," she said reassuringly. "Don't worry about it."

Serenity looked up to see the person she had bumped into. She felt her face getting flustered for as much as she could being an ice nymph. Not only was bumping into people rude but she had bumped into the queen. As the woman assured her it was allright she could not help but feel stupid still. "normally im not like this" she assured the woman making a small courtesy. "your highness, the words you spoke earlier were wonderful and very encouraging." she assured her with a shy ish smile. She went over all the etiquette she had learned in her head finding herself unprepared to talk to such royalty. "I hope your duties as queen have not been too overwhelming" she said in a somewhat worried way. Even if it was not her place she was aware that having to fit a certain picture was often hard

It had looked like everyone had responded well to Ophelia's words earlier, but it was nice to hear somebody say it too. And it sounded like it was a genuine compliment. "I'm glad to hear that. I hope others felt the same way," Ophelia said. The woman besides her seemed a little flustered, but most people tended to act that way around her when they first met her. It was just something that came with the territory when you were royalty. "I think if it wasn't overwhelming, I wouldn't be doing my job right," she said. "But the staff here at the castle are eager to help." It didn't matter if they were a royal advisor or a cook in the kitchen, the staff here at the castle seemed eager to help things go smoothly from day to day. "I don't think I caught your name," Ophelia said to the woman.

Arsinoe had been hugging the wall. She didn't like being at social events, never had. Her family had thrown so many growing up, as a way to flaunt their wealth. At Ophelia's speech, she applauded along with the others, her eyes sparkling with pride at the young queen. As she made her way to talk to the young monarch, she noticed a familiar face, and it didn't look like he was happy with his companion. Squaring her shoulders she made her way toward the young boy. Deciding that the best course of action was to get David and, she assumed, his sister away tactfully, she put on a smile and called out. "David, I'm glad you could come. We should catch up." She waved her hand, motioning to the kids to come talk to her.
"I can't believe you dragged me to this." Basil hissed at his cousin as they observed the party from a hole in the wall. Both of the young men were in their animal forms. "You know I don't really like this place."
"You don't like it because you had a really bad experience and you've condemned this place ever since," Justin said. "While I agree that what happened to you was unfortunate, you can't just write off an entire world just because of a bad experience. Besides," He said giving his cousin a grin. "You've got me to help you with anything. Now come on." He said moving into the open and changing into his human form. "Let's go have some fun."
Before Basil could offer more protests, his cousin leaned down and held out his hand so Basil could walk onto it. "You didn't expect me to just throw you into a social situation did you?" His cousin asked. "I'm nervous too, so I figured the best solution was to have you around in mouse form, where you could observe things without people seeing you. What do you think?"
"Not a bad idea. I assume that if I feel comfortable enough I can change forms?" When his cousin nodded, Basil walked onto the offered hand and made himself comfortable once Justin put him on his shoulder. He noticed that his cousin had made a shoulder pocket that held things that would make a mouse comfortable. "You really did think this through." He muttered as he went into the small pocket so he could observe things without being seen.

Azalea listened from in the background a book in her hand, to the speech that Ophelia had given. Her words were spun clear and simple, not like a novel, but like a diplomat. The young brown haired maiden ended up clapping her hands once the speech finished and the ball had been given flight. The young maiden felt somewhat at ease during these type of things, even if her life didn't prove that much. As she watched the young men and women converse and dance around like leaves on an autumn leaves fluttering through the wind. As she stood, a young man approached her. "Seems like a fairytale doesn't it." asked a somewhat familiar voice in a rather calm voice. "At least those you have read about, for so I assume." Aidan had placed his hands in his pocket and started to watch the dancing commence as well. ____ Conan had heard that there was a ball going on and the lights made it look like the castle was a gemstone. The kitsune remembered stories from the time he used to work for his icy maiden, stories about castles lit up like gemstones and music softly paying. He was usually not one to be found at lavish events, but something pulled him up the tree to at least have a peak inside the castle and see what was going on. He noticed two rat shifter brothers, no cousins, maybe. He could tell that they were rat shifter scent and other worldly air about them. Over hearing, he accidentally breaks a branch and an apple falls down. "Uh... so he dragged you to a place like this?" ----- Jimmy being one for fairytales and always seeing what was going on, just to be a bit inquisitive. The place did seem magical. As he watched the queen finish her speech. He clapped and went on a look about the castle. He decided to sit and listen to the music playing. It seemed like a nice place to be.

Serenity smiled weakly as she sort of knew what she meant. If it was not for the people depending on you, you might catch yourself doing a lesser job then you could have done. "Well It is good to hear you have people helping you at least." she spoke. "oh right. Excuse me. My name is serenity." she said. "So, were you planning on going out there to dance? Before i.. Sort of interrupted you" she asked with a weak smile.
As arthur had let go of the twins both of them audibly seemed to catch their breaths as Delilah hurried to davids side. David however looked up hearing and seeing a familiar person. He gently took his sister by the hand and went over to the woman who had saved him before. "Oh, hello miss..!" he said. Delilah was a little intimidated by the beautiful woman but none the less gave her a small smile. If david trusted her then she would too. "Hello, It's nice to meet you. My name is Delilah.." she said

The woman introduced herself as Serenity, which was a very pretty name. Ophelia liked the sound of it. Serenity asked if she was planning on dancing and she shook her head. "Not for the moment. Royalty taking to the dance floor tend to bring things to a halt." She paused for a moment before adding "Although I guess the same thing happens with any host of a party." Even someone like a lord or a duchess waltzing a number might make partygoers stop and stare if they were popular enough. And while Ophelia could dance pretty well, she just wanted to keep things easy-going for now.

Good, the man hadn't followed the kids. Arsinoe would have hated to disrupt the festive atmosphere of the party with a confrontation. She sent a warning glare after the man before turning to give the two kids a friendly smile.
"Hello Delilah, it's a pleasure to meet you." She said giving a small curtsy out of habit. The joys of being born into a noble family. "My name is Arsinoe, but you may call me Ari if you'd like. Are you enjoying the ball?" She asked, hoping to ease the tension before asking if they needed help.
"Jesus Christ!" Basil swore as he and his cousin jumped slightly at the unexpected voice. His fingers started to tap his thumb to help him relax. He said nothing, preferring to let Justin handle things. He stayed on Justin's shoulder in his mouse form, half-hidden in the pocket. He still preferred to observe things, for now.
"Well, not literally," Justin said, turning toward the window where the voice had come from. "It's an expression. I brought him along with me, even though he didn't really want to come." He wondered if the fox-looking gentleman was in a similar mindset as Basil, or if there wasn't an expression like that here in the Magic Realm.

Serenity tilted her head for a bit. "ah i see, thats too bad. It looks as if it could be really fun" she said as she looked over her shoulder to see the people on the dancefloor. The blonde mage really was dancing like nobody was watching. Serenity wished she could be as carefree one day. She then looked back to ophelia as she smiled back at her. "Yeah i think you might be right there miss. people will look no matter what.." she said softly as she scanned the crowd a bit to see if there were people she knew. The exact reason why she could not let lose like the people on the dance floor. " I am not keeping you from something right?" she suddenly asked. "I'd hate to stall if you had to go somewhere" she said with a soft chuckle.
David noticed the glare as he looked up to see if arthur had seen it, gladly he was too busy with himself to give the kids another look. He sighed. Delilah looked at the woman as she quickly copied her movement as she also bowed. "thats such a pretty name" she complimented the woman with a soft smile. At the question she looked around her still in awe of the big building. "This place is magical honestly" she spoke as she tried to relax a little. David was less focussed on how everything looked but more on the people attending. "How about you?" He suddenly asked as he looked at the woman.

"It comes with the territory. I'm used to it by now," Ophelia replied. Sure, she had her days when she wanted to blend in a bit more and not have people bowing and curtsying every five minutes, but today wasn't one of those days. She had to put on her regal airs every once in a while. Serenity asked if she was keeping her and Ophelia shook her head. "Oh no. Honestly, it's been a while since I've just...chatted with someone," she admitted. She'd been caught up in work lately, it was nice to just have a friendly conversation with someone. Still, Serenity looked a bit tense, as most people were when around royalty. Maybe there was a way to make the atmosphere less tense? Ophelia spotted a servant nearby, offering glasses of wine to any party goers. Ophelia caught his attention and waved him over, selecting a glass of red wine for herself. "Care for a drink?" she asked. "We've been saving these for a while." You couldn't have a royal party without some good vintage, after all. At least, Ophelia felt that way.

"Though truth be told. Those books do seem to do it justice.” Azalea gave a smile as she looked at her white and black haired dragon friend from years ago and started to blush a bit. “I….. I….. It’s nice to see you again, Aidan.” Azalea blushed a bit that she couldn’t help it, though being a tomboy sorta girl whenever she was around Aidan, her heart sort of fluttered away from her.
Aidan found himself too blushing as the conversation left from books to himself. “It’s nice to see you too Azalea.” The two of them had always been sorta awkward/Aidan had always been few for words, so for him to approach her like that, it was a bit odd. “Well I got to agree. Uh…. Would you care to dance or see the artculture?”
Azalea raised her eyebrow. “Come on.” The fairy gently grabbed ahold of the dragon’s hand and led her to the floor. She gave a light smile.
Aidan looked at his childhood friend and started to dance with her.
_____
“Figures.” the fox looking gentleman answered back to the rat smelling gentleman that seemed to have a friendlier scent then the younger one. He gave a light laugh. “Oh well hope the guy can lighten up his mood a bit. Even if it’s a ball, it looks like there can still be a little bit of activities one looks forward to.”
True that Conan had never been to a ball, but the stories he heard from Serenity back when he remembered her seemed to be something that sounded a bit fun. Yet back then his life was mostly chores and stuff like that. “So you two seem like interesting sorts of fellows.” Conan climbed over to the window and takes another bite out of his apple.
_____
Jimmy started to get up and walk around the halls as he noticed all sorts of paintings and fine sorta artwork. Some were really nice and refined. Well it was a palace after all and what Jimmy would kind of expect. His upbringing made him rather used to these types of events, just in a different light. It would seem that the two worlds did have a few things in common, but still anything was better than being at home. Jimmy would have been a fool if he wasn’t at least a little bit curious on how a social class similar to his at home lived. It was indeed interesting.

Serenity gave ophelia a somewhat apologetic smile as she nodded. "I know what you mean to some degree." she admitted as she sighed. " I personally find it rather exhausting" she added. She could not imagine how much pressure ophelia must have been feeling if serenity already thought hers was suffocating.
Her smile softened a bit when she was told that she had not had a casual talk in a while. "I hope I'm not disappointing company then, I did almost run you over after all" she said allowing herself to sligtly tease the woman who offered her a drink. She nodded and got herself a glass. Serenity was not really someone who drank a lot but once or twice would not hurt anyone.
"thank you" she said. "I'd like that." she looked at the glass. " Ball festivities are reducing lately, I must admit i was looking forward to tonight" she said. Though it was one of those nights she had to behave with orders of her father, she did like the magical feeling of being surrounded by music lights and dancing people

Ophelia smiled at Serenity before handing her a glass and sipping from her own. Truth be told, it had taken her a while to actually like wine. Her parents had thought it hilarious when she'd first tried it and said it tasted like dirt. But it was always nice to have on hand for parties and help people loosen up a bit. She laughed a little at Serenity's comment about nearly running her over. "I've had more awkward introductions," she said. "Some by myself. Once when I was younger, I had on shoes with rather high heels and I fell over while curtsying in front of the entire court. I turned red as a beet." That had been pretty embarrassing. At least everyone had been good-natured about it. Or maybe they'd just hadn't brought it up again since she was royalty. Either way, she appreciated it.
