She nodded. "Okay, so I move fast and just keep screaming at her." She gave a bitter little laugh. "Sounds like what my dad does with mom. Okay. Hopefully we get to be in a larger place, I can fly around her and scream at her. It's too narrow in the passage ways, though." She looked around a little uneasily, her feathers fluffing with the growing tension. One one hand she'd prefer meeting the thing sooner than later, but then again this wasn't the best place to encounter something like a striga. "So...I guess you're in Avalon too, huh?" the normal citizens of the other realm felt a little different than the ones from the real city. "Who are you there?"

Jiro was used to dark jokes and all, he made plenty himself, but Octavia's comment about her parents did make him a little worried. It sounded like they fought a lot. Were they getting a divorce or something? Jiro had never gone through anything like that. Octavia asked him who he was in Avalon though, changing the subject a little. "Same name, different job. I'm a handyman, kind of a jack of all trades." He paused for a moment before adding "I'm assuming your parents don't know anything about the Magic Realm?" Some families had generations on end that got a disc and could come here, others just had one.

"Huh. That's really cool. I'm a high school student. I've noticed some of the teachers and other students are also players-somehow. I just don't talk to them. Or know how I know they're players?" it was weird. Like an itch, almost. Or a weird sense. She hesitated at his follow up question. "I...I don't know. My dad grew up in Avalon before leaving for college. So maybe he has a disc? Or my aunt. But I've never asked or paid attention. I guess dad could. We only moved back for good last year, and I found mine in the mailbox maybe a month or two after that." it'd been in a generic case and when she asked her dad he'd been distracted and waved it off. "I put it in and next thing I knew, I was a bird girl and in this other world." she eyed him. "How did you get human? I'm not complaining about harpy at all, I just wonder what decides what you are in this other world."

Jiro knew what Octavia meant. If he came across someone in town who could also access the Magic Realm, this weird feeling always went through him, and he and the other person usually looked at each other for a moment like a couple of deer caught in headlights. Sometimes it was awkward, but he had made a few friends that way. Being able to come here and experiencing all the magic sometimes made it easy to bond with others. "I'm close to human here, but not quite," he said. "Check this out." He held up his left hand, which looked normal for a second. But with hardly any effort at all, Jiro used his magic to turn it entirely into metal. "I'm like a walking Tin-Man if I go all out with this magic," he said. "Comes in handy during a fight." He side stepped a rock that was poking out of the floor. "As for how this place chooses what you are...nobody seems to know for sure. Some think it takes into account what you like, what you want. Others think it makes you want you were meant to be. And some say it's just completely random." Theories about that had been going around for a while. Jiro glanced up though when he and Octavia reached the end of the tunnel and came across a wide open space with more tunnels branching in different directions. Gems shone through the walls and ceiling. Jiro could spot a ruby or two, a few sapphires, even an emerald. "Okay striga, where did you go?" he muttered, trying to see where the blood trail continued.

"Oh, shit, yea!" She stared at his arm and grinned. "You could be a regular Terminator, huh? That's pretty lit. No kidding with the Tin Man stuff." She could see how it'd be really handy fighting people. At his comment she looked down at her feathers and her claws and tried to think on how, exactly, this was who she was meant to be. Or if this was what she'd secretly wanted. Flying away from home was something she wanted, being more powerful definitely something else she'd daydreamed about. But this...it was just her. With feathers. "It's probably random" she said with a nod. When they came to a fork, Via looked between them critically, and crouched down to the ground to see the blood better. "Could you lend me some extra light closer to the ground?" She asked. "I think I see where it's going, but I need some more light."

Jiro laughed a little at Octavia describing him as like the Terminator. It was a little fitting. Octavia seemed to be seeing something with the trail and Jiro held his torch closer to the ground. Before he could ask if Octavia could see anything though, he heard a loud shriek. He spun around, eyes checking every corner. That was the striga alright, but where was it? The screech was bouncing off the walls, it was hard to tell where the sound was coming from. "It's coming for us. I can't tell which direction. Do you see it?" he asked Octavia.
